EM703 - Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering (Mixed mode)

Introduction

The Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering (EM703) is a mixed mode programme, whereby the evaluation is done through courses and research works. The programme provides outgoing bachelor students opportunity for specialisation in various fields at master level. It also provides a greater opportunity for engineers to enhance their knowledge for career advancement.

Programme Objectives

The Master of Mechanical Engineering programme aims to produce graduates who are:

  1. An engineer, highly skilled in R&D related activities.
  2. An engineer qualified with good values, ethics and morals.
  3. An engineer equipped with entrepreneurial and leadership skills.

Duration

Full-time: 3 to 6 semesters

Classes will be conducted at night or on weekends to accommodate employed students.

Courses Offered

The programme is a mixed mode, which consists of 17 credits of taught courses and 27 hours of supervised master research project.

The taught courses split into four core courses and two electives. The core courses are:

  1. Research Methodology
  2. Modelling and Simulation of Engineering Systems
  3. Advanced Numerical Method
  4. Project Management

Students can select two electives based on their preferences from the offered courses, which cover six area of specialization, i.e.

  1. Applied Mechanics

  5. Thermo-Fluid Systems
  6. Bio Mechanics

The research project will be supervised by lecturers who are expert in their respective field and are actively involved in doing research.

Note: All courses are three credit hours. Selected courses will be offered, subject to minimum numbers of students registering for the scheduled courses.

Entry Requirements

A bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering with minimum CGPA of 2.75 out of 4 (or equivalent, e.g. Electrical, Chemical, Civil, Industrial, Aerospace and Automotive Engineering, Applied Science and  Computer Science) from UiTM or any other institution of higher learning recognized by UiTM; or

A lower CGPA with working experience in the relevant field.
